It’s a new month, and approaching a new season, so we bid farewell to Red Velvet Cupcakes and Orange Cranberry Pie. Though they were both delicious and popular, they had to make room for our new delights: Strawberry Pie with Meyer lemon glaze and Lemon-Lavender Cupcakes! The new pie is filled with organic strawberries and Meyer lemon zest. After baking, the crust is drizzled with a Meyer lemon glaze. These delicate pastries aren’t too sweet, so don’t feel bad if you eat one for breakfast!
The Lemon-Lavender Cupcake is filled with organic dried lavender and Meyer lemon zest. Each cake is topped with a light frosting flavored with Meyer lemon juice, zest, and lavender tea. They’re the perfect cake to welcome Spring! Imagine yourself in a blooming garden (perhaps Oakland’s Rose Garden), sipping Earl Grey tea and enjoying one of these tasty treats. Mmmmmm…Spring…
We have several Events coming up in March: next week we will be at the Bay Area Homemade Market at 1790 Shattuck Ave in Berkeley from 1pm til 5pm. Come by to stock up on yummy foods! Next Sunday, you can find us at the Women’s Cancer Resource Center in Oakland for Edible East Bay’s Edible Art Show. Sample food from local vendors and admire artwork from local artists! Then, on March 15th, we will return the Alameda Food Coma (hopefully with less rain) from 11am until 3pm at the College of Alameda. Come for food, art, music, and fun! It’s time for a new Cupcake Special! We introduced the Red Velvet Cupcake (mini version pictured above) this past Saturday at the Grease Diner Art Bodega Galleria for their 3-D blacklight art show. These tasty morsels will be back at the Grease Diner this Saturday, February 8th for a Valentine’s arts and crafts day of fun! Find us there with delicious treats from 12pm until 5pm.
Again, you can find MRBC treats this Saturday in Oakland. In addition to the Red Velvet Cupcake, you can find Orange Cranberry Pop Pies and Hand Pies, Almond-Sesame Granola, Sunflower Seed Brittle, and our new chocolate treat! Come by to make Valentine’s Day crafts and eat some yummy treats while viewing local art.
What is our new chocolate treat, you ask? Why, it’s our Almond Butter Cups! These decadent cups are made with dark chocolate, raw almond butter, and sprinkled with salt. They come in packages of two, perfect to share or to eat alone in your closet so no one tries to steal them.
Finally, it’s back: Spiced Kumquat Marmalade! Pick up a jar at the Grease Diner this Saturday, or order directly from us. This is a limited item, as the kumquat season is short and sweet. Use our order form, or come by our events.
It’s 2014, and we have awesome new treats for you! Yesterday was the first time we offered our January Cupcake Special, the Spicy Chocolate Cupcake. The cake has a delicate crumb and is spiced with cinnamon and cayenne pepper. A generous dusting of powdered sugar, cocoa, and cinnamon makes this a tasty and fun dessert. Don’t worry though; no frosting means less fat and less sugar than those decadent delights with icing. Pick them up at events this month for $2.50, or place an order online for a half dozen ($15) or full dozen ($30) for delivery or pick up from our kitchen!
We have also begun offering the Orange Cranberry Pop Pies. These are two-bite versions of our Seasonal Hand Pie (which are still available for orders and at events). Each pop pie is made with fresh cranberries, fresh squeezed orange juice and orange zest, and organic ingredients. These are perfect for parties, afternoon treats, and gifts! $1/pop at our events, or you can order them by fives for $4.50.
Yes, we have even more new treats! Now we’re offering Almond-Sesame Granola with raisins OR dried cranberries, your choice. Our granola is made with rolled oats, almonds, sesame seeds, organic raw agave nectar, sunflower oil, spices, and just a touch of salt. No wheat or cane sugar in this healthy treat! Perfect for breakfast with almond milk or coconut yogurt, or you can simply snack right out of the bag. $4 gets you 4oz of granola.
The last, but certainly not least, new treat is our Savory Roasted Almonds. Raw almonds are roasted with sunflower oil and spiced with granulated garlic, cayenne pepper, and freshly ground black pepper. Almonds are a powerful superfood; they combat diabetes, lower LDL cholesterol, and contain lots of protein! This is gearing up to be a busy month for the Mollie Rose Baking Company! The first week of December brought a new cupcake special, a new seasonal hand pie, a new preserve, and two holiday events! On Thursday, December 5th, we were in Emeryville with the DISPLAY pop up market. There were craft vendors, a macaron vendor, and MRBC. We premiered our Apple Cider Cupcake and Orange Cranberry Hand Pie! We also had our Rosemary-Meyer Lemon Marmalade for sale with our Harvest Pear Jam, Molasses Beer Bread, Cinnamon Glazed Almonds, Peppermint Bark, and Pumpkin Seed Brittle. Our Apple Cider Cupcake is available at events and for orders throughout the month of December! Our spiced apple cake is baked til golden then topped with a cinnamon “buttercream.” Also available gluten-free for an extra charge. They’re a delightful treat to be enjoyed during this cold winter month along with hot cocoa, warm tea, and (of course) hot apple cider!
The Rosemary-Meyer Lemon Marmalade has been a favorite at the three events we’ve offered it. Sliced Meyer lemons are soaked overnight with freh, organic rosemary. The lemons are then cooked with organic sugar and jarred with a sprig of rosemary in each jar. This marmalade makes the perfect gift for your marmalade-loving friends and family! Or you can keep it for yourself and enjoy it on crumpets and scones; we won’t judge.
The Orange Cranberry Hand Pie is our Winter Seasonal Hand Pie! This tart/sweet pie is made with fresh, organic cranberries, freshly squeezed organic orange juice, and orange zest. The filling is baked in a tender pastry and the dough is topped with a sprinkling of organic sugar. These festive pies are available through February.

This past Saturday, we said goodbye to the Pumpkin Spice Mini Cupcake, our October Cupcake Special, and Hello! to our newest treat: Cinnamon Glazed Almonds. Though we are sad to see the mini cupcakes leave, we are excited for our upcoming November Cupcake Special: Pumpkin Marshmallow! These pumpkin cupcakes are frosted with cinnamon “buttercream” and topped with vegan marshmallows. $36/dozen, $39/dozen for gluten-free. These are perfect for every party and event you have planned this month! Who doesn’t love a well-spiced pumpkin treat, especially when it’s accompanied by marshmallows?

Tomorrow, we’re having our second pop-up bakery at 1218 E. 21st Street in Oakland from 11am until 2pm. There will be no bread loaves, unfortunately, because our bread maker is ill, but there will be tasty sunflower seed brittle made with organic Earth Balance margarine, organic roasted sunflower seeds, organic sugar, and organic raw agave nectar! We’re bringing this candy back after a few weeks of no brittle. It’s caramelly sweet, crunchy, and spiced with cinnamon and cardamom!
We’ll also have a trio of cupcakes! These dark chocolate cupcakes with fudgy frosting will be one of the cupcakes offered tomorrow. Not too sweet, with tons of chocolatey goodness. These are a chocolate lover’s dream.
We’ll have our June Cupcake Special: Carrot Cake with “cream cheese” frosting! Once again, we’ll have the gluten-free version tomorrow. Freshly grated carrot and yummy ginger, topped with chopped pecans!
A pop-up favorite, these Lavender Shortbread cookies are buttery, crispy, and just a bit floral. The lavender is brightened with lemon zest, and the cookies are not too sweet. Take some home to eat with tea or ice cream!
Finally, there will be Peach Lavender Jam! A new batch made fresh last week will be for sale tomorrow. It’s like summer in a jar! Dried lavender buds, sweet peaches, and lemon zest make this jam perfect on scones, pancakes, or muffins. Get your jar before peaches go out of season!
It’s been quite a week! On Sunday, we had our first pop-up at 1218 E. 21st Street in Oakland. It was a beautiful day with beautiful people, and we sold out of everything except two of our Carrot Cake Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting (gluten-free version)! We received great feedback, and now we know that our bread loaves are in demand, as is our pie. Don’t worry; there will be more! Take a stroll or ride your bike around the lake, then come on by and grab a gluten-free currant scone, peach-apricot mini pie, loaf of molasses beer bread or olive rosemary bread, a cupcake, or a jar of jam at our pop-up.
Speaking of pie, our Summer Seasonal Pie Special is Peach-Apricot! These mini pies are perfect to share, but don’t be afraid to have one all to yourself. $5.50 gets you one mini pie with a flaky crust and slightly sweet, somewhat tart filling. Available now through the end of August!
Last weekend, these were a huge hit. Our Lavender Shortbread Cookies are available year-round, but they go so well with the summer! Slightly floral lavender flavor, brightened with Meyer lemon zest, these “buttery” and crisp cookies make everyone happy! Just like everything else we sell, these shortbread are vegan all the way. We use organic Earth Balance instead of butter, but we bet your friends will never know! order yours today.
Our first Bay Area Homemade Market happened last Saturday night, and it was an amazing success! Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed delicious homemade foods and beautiful soaps (there was one non-food vendor). For us, the night was a huge success! We sold out of nearly everything, save three jars of strawberry vanilla bean jam, two gluten-free quinoa muffins, and one small bag of sunflower seed brittle. We’re looking forward to the next Market on June 29th, same time same place.
This week has been filled with work work work, and not just for the bakery. We’ve had to fit time in between our full-time jobs to prepare for our up coming pop-up this Sunday, June 2nd! We’ll be at 1218 East 21st Street in Oakland from 11am until 2pm. Look for the large purple/mauve Victorian in the middle of the block bewteen 12th and 13th Avenues. We’ll be premiering our June Cupcake Special and our Seasonal Summer Pie (see below)! Bring a friend to share with and a bag to take home your goodies.
In addition to the mini pies and dark chocolate almond bark, we have also been making olive rosemary bread, snickerdoodles, and cornmeal scones. Though you won’t see those last three things at the pop-up, you can always order them via e-mail. Just send a request to firstname.lastname@example.org! Please give us at least one week for bread orders and three days for other baked goods.
