It’s a new month, and approaching a new season, so we bid farewell to Red Velvet Cupcakes and Orange Cranberry Pie. Though they were both delicious and popular, they had to make room for our new delights: Strawberry Pie with Meyer lemon glaze and Lemon-Lavender Cupcakes! The new pie is filled with organic strawberries and Meyer lemon zest. After baking, the crust is drizzled with a Meyer lemon glaze. These delicate pastries aren’t too sweet, so don’t feel bad if you eat one for breakfast!
The Lemon-Lavender Cupcake is filled with organic dried lavender and Meyer lemon zest. Each cake is topped with a light frosting flavored with Meyer lemon juice, zest, and lavender tea. They’re the perfect cake to welcome Spring! Imagine yourself in a blooming garden (perhaps Oakland’s Rose Garden), sipping Earl Grey tea and enjoying one of these tasty treats. Mmmmmm…Spring…
We have several Events coming up in March: next week we will be at the Bay Area Homemade Market at 1790 Shattuck Ave in Berkeley from 1pm til 5pm. Come by to stock up on yummy foods! Next Sunday, you can find us at the Women’s Cancer Resource Center in Oakland for Edible East Bay’s Edible Art Show. Sample food from local vendors and admire artwork from local artists! Then, on March 15th, we will return the Alameda Food Coma (hopefully with less rain) from 11am until 3pm at the College of Alameda. Come for food, art, music, and fun! It’s been quite a month for the Mollie Rose Baking Company! Above is a picture of two loaves of bread Ms. Mollie Rose made with a first grade class in Oakland in the middle of January. The students are learning about breads all over the world, and they’re learning all about the science of bread too! After the class kneaded the bread, Ms. Mollie Rose took it home, let it rise again, and baked it. Everyone in the class enjoyed eating the bread with some Red Pear and Lavender Jam. You may not know this, but Mollie teaches elementary school part-time in addition to owning and operating the Mollie Rose Baking Company. She has the opportunity to pursue both her passions! For the New Year, MRBC has been selling healthier items such as granola and flavored almonds. Now you can order Savory Roasted Almonds, Cinnamon Glazed Almonds, and Almond-Sesame Granola: $4 for each 4oz bag, or $11 for three bags (mix and match). You can order them anytime, or find them at our events!
We’re always experimenting in our kitchen, and one recent invention has become a favorite breakfast item for us: Almond Paste Muffins. A traditional Dutch recipe with a vegan twist! The muffin dough is enhanced with organic applesauce and organic ground cinnamon, and homemade almond paste is sandwiched in the middle. These are amazing warm with some jam, or just as a snack with a little extra protein. You’ll be able to order these new muffins beginning in February.
Next Saturday night, you can find us at the Grease Diner Art Galleria Bodega from 7pm until 11pm! This will be the first time you can get the February Cupcake Special (I’ll just tell you it’s Red Velvet!) and we’ll have other treats for sale, too. Come out for fun, art, and food!

This coming Sunday, November 24th, we will be at Patchwork Show’s FREE Oakland craft fest at Jack London Square! We’ll be upstairs next to Brown Dog Mustard. This will be your last chance to pick up Spiced Apple Hand Pies and Pumpkin Marshmallow Cupcakes! We’ll also have Cinnamon Glazed Almonds, Pumpkin Seed Brittle, Harvest Pear Jam, Sourdough Baguettes, Molasses Beer Bread, Olive Bread, and new treats: Rosemary-Meyer Lemon Marmalade and Peppermint Bark. This past Saturday, we said goodbye to the Pumpkin Spice Mini Cupcake, our October Cupcake Special, and Hello! to our newest treat: Cinnamon Glazed Almonds. Though we are sad to see the mini cupcakes leave, we are excited for our upcoming November Cupcake Special: Pumpkin Marshmallow! These pumpkin cupcakes are frosted with cinnamon “buttercream” and topped with vegan marshmallows. $36/dozen, $39/dozen for gluten-free. These are perfect for every party and event you have planned this month! Who doesn’t love a well-spiced pumpkin treat, especially when it’s accompanied by marshmallows?
This Sunday, you’ll find us at the Bedford Gallery’s 6th Annual Craft Fest at 1601 Civic Drive in Walnut Creek. Admission is FREE, and the event runs from 11am until 5pm. Check it out on their site: Bedford Gallery In addition to artisan food vendors, there will be arts and crafts tables filled with handmade gifts perfect for the loved ones in your life. Come by, pick up some glazed almonds, chocolate, breads, cupcakes, brittle, jams, and holiday gifts!

You’ll find us at our E. 17th pop up on November 17 and at the Patchwork Show in Jack London Square on November 24. As promised, above is a photo of our October Cupcake Special: Pumpkin Spice Mini Cupcakes! Made with fresh roasted pumpkin and rolled in cinnamon and sugar, these vegan delights can be made gluten-free! $15/dozen ($18/dozen gluten-free) and only available until October 31st (Halloween!). We premiered them at our pop up this past Sunday, and you’ll be able to find them on October 20th at E. 17th and 3rd, and then again (for the final October pop up) at Lakeshore and Wayne on October 26th. We will also begin selling our Pumpkin Seed Brittle this month, and we will continue to sell it through December. We have several recipes in the experimental phase, including an exciting gluten-free bread recipe! We’ll keep you posted. 😉

You may have come by and seen us at last month’s BAHM; we were stationed just next to the Kitchener Oakland for a night of food, fun, and art (Creative Growth Art Center is just across the street). It was lovely meeting all the new people, eating all the delicious food, and hanging out under the harvest moon! We will unfortunately miss out on this month’s Bay Area Homemade Market, but keep an eye out for our other events.
Meet our Harvest Pear Jam! Along with our Figgy Thyme Jam, it is one of our seasonal preserves offered this Fall. Bartlett pears are cooked with cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg and then pureed into a mostly-smooth pie-like jam. This past weekend, we participated in the Bay Area Homemade Market in Berkeley, CA. The above gluten-free currant scones were delivered fresh and snug in their box to a wonderful vendor, Brown Dog Mustard, at the market. We also had our (award-winning) Dark and Stormy cupcakes for sale, which sold out! Our mini peach-apricot pies and molasses beer bread were also gone by the end of the night! It was a wonderful market with wonderful people.
This week, we are having two events: Thursday we’ll be at Good Bellies Cafe for a zine release party, and Sunday we’ll be near Lake Merritt at our neighborhood pop up. These are the last events for July, which means these are the last days to get our Dark and Stormy cupcakes (unless you order them for pick up/delivery by July 31). Once August hits, goodbye Dark and Stormy, hello August Cupcake Special!
