April Showers Bring May Flowers

chocolates

Well, April didn’t have many showers, literal or figurative, but May is definitely bringing us some beautiful flowers! Last weekend’s Craft Fest at the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek was amazing! Beautiful art, lovely crafts, and tasty food. We sold out of nearly everything we brought! Thank you for coming out and trying our goods!

There has been a very exciting development at the Mollie Rose Baking Company: beginning mid-June, we will have a storefront in Berkeley, CA! This summer, we will begin our stay at the micro-mall next to the FIREHOUSE ART COLLECTIVE events hangar, sharing space with other local vendors and Rasa-Caffe. Check for our hours coming soon!

Keep Calm and Bake On!

1st grade breadIt’s been quite a month for the Mollie Rose Baking Company! Above is a picture of two loaves of bread Ms. Mollie Rose made with a first grade class in Oakland in the middle of January. The students are learning about breads all over the world, and they’re learning all about the science of bread too! After the class kneaded the bread, Ms. Mollie Rose took it home, let it rise again, and baked it. Everyone in the class enjoyed eating the bread with some Red Pear and Lavender Jam. You may not know this, but Mollie teaches elementary school part-time in addition to owning and operating the Mollie Rose Baking Company. She has the opportunity to pursue both her passions! And just this week, Foie Gras and Funnel Cakes interviewed Mollie Rose about the bakery! Check out the interview here: Food Artisan Interviews: 10 Questions for Mollie Rose Dutton-Starbuck, Mollie Rose Baking Company

trioFor the New Year, MRBC has been selling healthier items such as granola and flavored almonds. Now you can order Savory Roasted Almonds, Cinnamon Glazed Almonds, and Almond-Sesame Granola: $4 for each 4oz bag, or $11 for three bags (mix and match). You can order them anytime, or find them at our events!

almond muffineWe’re always experimenting in our kitchen, and one recent invention has become a favorite breakfast item for us: Almond Paste Muffins. A traditional Dutch recipe with a vegan twist! The muffin dough is enhanced with organic applesauce and organic ground cinnamon, and homemade almond paste is sandwiched in the middle. These are amazing warm with some jam, or just as a snack with a little extra protein. You’ll be able to order these new muffins beginning in February.

image (1)Next Saturday night, you can find us at the Grease Diner Art Galleria Bodega from 7pm until 11pm! This will be the first time you can get the February Cupcake Special (I’ll just tell you it’s Red Velvet!) and we’ll have other treats for sale, too. Come out for fun, art, and food!

kumquatsLast but not least, I’ll leave you with this picture as a hint for the new marmalade that will be offered starting next month. Mmmmmmmm…

November Ends, December Begins, and the Holidays REALLY Get Going

patchworkOn Sunday, we participated in Patchwork Show at Jack London Square. Thank you to everyone who came out! We had a blast selling our wares and checking out all the awesome vendors. There was so much to choose from: vintage clothing, records, bags, bath and beauty products, jewelry, and tons more! It was also the last chance for Pumpkin Marshmallow Cupcakes and Spiced Apple Hand Pies. They’re making way for a new cupcake and hand pie special in December.

peppermintbarkWe also launched a new treat: Peppermint Bark! Dark chocolate, candy canes, and puffed rice make this a fun and tasty treat for the holiday season. Think of it for gift baskets, stocking stuffing, or host(ess) gifts. Or just order some for  yourself. 😉

stoutWe’re also updating our Molasses Beer Bread! The bread will now be made with organic chocolate stout from Bison Brewery. It gives the bread a richer color and more complex flavor without over-powering your tastebuds.

Lastly, we have several events coming up in December! You’ll find us at DISPLAY-Emeryville’s December launch and holiday fair, December 5th and December 19th respectively. We’ll also be at New Taste Marketplace in San Francisco on Saturday, December 7th. And, the Sunday before Christmas (December 22nd), we’ll be at our  pop up location on E. 17th and 3rd Avenue in Oakland. So much to look forward to! Happy Holidays!

Pumpkins, Apples, Almonds, and Events!

pop up2Yesterday, we had our pop up on E. 17th at 3rd Avenue and met lots of new people and saw plenty of familiar faces! Thank you to all the folks who showed up! It was a beautiful Fall day in Oakland, and we’re looking forward to all the events coming up next month.

pumpkin brittleAt the event yesterday, we premiered our Fall/Winter candy special: Pumpkin Seed Brittle! It’s made with organic sugar, organic roasted pumpkin seeds, organic raw agave nectar, organic nonhydrogenated margarine, vanilla extract, spices, baking soda, and salt! No dairy, no gluten, no corn; just plain ol’ delicious sweetness! We almost sold out of this new candy, so it looks like a new batch is in the near future. Order it on our site or our webstand!

chocolate2We also had our Dark Chocolate Almond Bark (with cacao nibs and maple sugar!) for sale. This is a rich chocolate enveloping roasted almonds and nibs, sprinkled with maple sugar. Get it while you can; as the holidays approach, we’ll be phasing this chocolate out and bringing in a new treat!

breadsNo pop up would be complete without some of our amazing bread! Yesterday, we completely sold out of these delicious loaves! The olive bread was made with thyme instead of rosemary for a new aromatic sensation. Our molasses bread is always baked with Sierra Nevada beer, which gives it that wonderful texture. Order your loaves today!

Our next pop up is this Saturday, October 26th at Lake Merritt from 11am until 2pm. You can find us between Brooklyn and Wayne on Lakeshore Avenue. Stop by for Spiced Apple Hand Pies, Pumpkin Spice Mini Cupcakes, Pumpkin Seed Brittle, Dark Chocolate Almond Bark, Figgy Thyme Jam, Harvest Pear Jam, fresh loaves of bread, and a new treat: Cinnamon Roasted Almonds!

We premiered them at our pop up this past Sunday, and you’ll be able to find them on October 20th at E. 17th and 3rd, and then again (for the final October pop up) at Lakeshore and Wayne on October 26th. We can do custom order cakes, just e-mail us at msmollierose@gmail.com to discuss what you’d like. We also donated some cupcakes to the East Bay Vegan Bake Sale today, which benefited Bad Rap and Girl Army! They raised a total of $1,110 this afternoon for these wonderful organizations.

This coming week, our very own Ms. Mollie will be competing in the Rock Paper Scissors Collective’s annual Vegan Cupcake Bake-off! $5 gets you a raffle ticket and a sample of each competing cupcake. What’s Cookin?

strawberry vanilla bean jamA lot! We have a new batch of strawberry vanilla bean jam for sale. Made with organic strawberries, organic sugar, organic Meyer lemons, pectin, and vanilla bean! This jam is very popular, but we can only make it in small batches to preserve the integrity of the fruit. We have five 8-oz jars and four 4-oz jars for sale now.

Olive breadOur bread maker keeps churning out beautiful and delicious loaves! Above is our olive bread made with kalamata olives and fresh rosemary. This is a fragrant and scrumptious loaf which pairs perfectly with pasta. We need one week to fill bread orders (they do take quite a while to make), so please keep that in mind when ordering.

herbed mustardAfter two weeks of curing, our herbed mustard is ready to eat! We have six 4-oz jars for sale. This mustard is made with thyme and a stout reduction.

chocolate cookiesThese fun cookies were a custom order for a customer’s family visit this weekend. Chewy, fudgy cookies in the shapes of elephants, guitars, cats, and hearts!
