Keep Calm and Bake On!

1st grade breadIt’s been quite a month for the Mollie Rose Baking Company! Above is a picture of two loaves of bread Ms. Mollie Rose made with a first grade class in Oakland in the middle of January. The students are learning about breads all over the world, and they’re learning all about the science of bread too! After the class kneaded the bread, Ms. Mollie Rose took it home, let it rise again, and baked it. Everyone in the class enjoyed eating the bread with some Red Pear and Lavender Jam. You may not know this, but Mollie teaches elementary school part-time in addition to owning and operating the Mollie Rose Baking Company. She has the opportunity to pursue both her passions! And just this week, Foie Gras and Funnel Cakes interviewed Mollie Rose about the bakery! Check out the interview here: Food Artisan Interviews: 10 Questions for Mollie Rose Dutton-Starbuck, Mollie Rose Baking Company

trioFor the New Year, MRBC has been selling healthier items such as granola and flavored almonds. Now you can order Savory Roasted Almonds, Cinnamon Glazed Almonds, and Almond-Sesame Granola: $4 for each 4oz bag, or $11 for three bags (mix and match). You can order them anytime, or find them at our events!

almond muffineWe’re always experimenting in our kitchen, and one recent invention has become a favorite breakfast item for us: Almond Paste Muffins. A traditional Dutch recipe with a vegan twist! The muffin dough is enhanced with organic applesauce and organic ground cinnamon, and homemade almond paste is sandwiched in the middle. These are amazing warm with some jam, or just as a snack with a little extra protein. You’ll be able to order these new muffins beginning in February.

image (1)Next Saturday night, you can find us at the Grease Diner Art Galleria Bodega from 7pm until 11pm! This will be the first time you can get the February Cupcake Special (I’ll just tell you it’s Red Velvet!) and we’ll have other treats for sale, too. Come out for fun, art, and food!

kumquatsLast but not least, I’ll leave you with this picture as a hint for the new marmalade that will be offered starting next month. Mmmmmmmm…

Happy New Year!

spicychocccIt’s 2014, and we have awesome new treats for you! Yesterday was the first time we offered our January Cupcake Special, the Spicy Chocolate Cupcake. The cake has a delicate crumb and is spiced with cinnamon and cayenne pepper. A generous dusting of powdered sugar, cocoa, and cinnamon makes this a tasty and fun dessert. Don’t worry though; no frosting means less fat and less sugar than those decadent delights with icing. Pick them up at events this month for $2.50, or place an order online for a half dozen ($15) or full dozen ($30) for delivery or pick up from our kitchen!

pop piesWe have also begun offering the Orange Cranberry Pop Pies. These are two-bite versions of our Seasonal Hand Pie (which are still available for orders and at events). Each pop pie is made with fresh cranberries, fresh squeezed orange juice and orange zest, and organic ingredients. These are perfect for parties, afternoon treats, and gifts! $1/pop at our events, or you can order them by fives for $4.50.

granolaYes, we have even more new treats! Now we’re offering Almond-Sesame Granola with raisins OR dried cranberries, your choice. Our granola is made with rolled oats, almonds, sesame seeds, organic raw agave nectar, sunflower oil, spices, and just a touch of salt. No wheat or cane sugar in this healthy treat! Perfect for breakfast with almond milk or coconut yogurt, or you can simply snack right out of the bag. $4 gets you 4oz of granola.

popupThe last, but certainly not least, new treat is our Savory Roasted Almonds. Raw almonds are roasted with sunflower oil and spiced with granulated garlic, cayenne pepper, and freshly ground black pepper. Almonds are a powerful superfood; they combat diabetes, lower LDL cholesterol, and contain lots of protein! Like our Cinnamon Glazed Almonds and Almond-Sesame Granola, this awesome snack is available for $4/4oz.
